I do look forward to the yearly top ten (and bottom five), it’s one of the opportunities we get to release a “list” episode that can include a bunch of films. I’m always looking to be surprised by my co-host as well, and this year was notably delightful. There wasn’t much in the way of overlap between our top ten lists, which I’m hoping is passed on to you the reader/listener as a chance to take note of any films that may strike your fancy and encourage you to check them out. Lofty goals, I know.
The format did change up a bit: we’ll count down to number two, then before revealing our top picks, we’ll discuss honourable mentions.
Bonus: this episode has chapters for every entry, so hopefully your podcast player of choice supports them and you can zip around the audio as you please. We don’t get into spoilers for the movies, but honestly the definition is a bit blurry and if you’re looking to watch a film and not take any chances (cause we are definitely not perfect) then you can easily skip ahead to the next entry.
After a week or so of the episode being live, I’ll update this post with the lists. That being said, procrastination typically wins out.
It’s been a struggle finding motivation this past few months, and getting back into the ‘recording booth’ and doing this episode has been helpful. Podcast editing is not easy, and I don’t even do that much. It’s mostly cleaning up the “uhh’s and umm’s” (but not all of them of course), removing extended silences and anytime we accidentally hit the table. It all takes time though. This episode clocks in at around one hour forty minutes and it probably took me twice that long to get it all sorted out. Hopefully my groove has been found again and I’ll continue editing each week to get us back onto a regular schedule.
Next episode is going to be the 2024 Bottom 5, then we have six movie-focused episodes to release.
Thanks everyone for your patience, understanding and continuing to hang out with us in our film journey. Every view, comment, email or like helps keep it going.
